We are an eco hostel working to minimize our effect on the environment.
Eco Lodge Pakowhai is a newly built complex, offering budget accommodation in park-like surroundings. The land has been in our family since the late 1800’s and was used to grow fruit and berries. We wish to maintain the property as a productive site growing fruit for our families and guests, and as a haven for bees and birds.
Accommodation starts from only $30 per night with a variety of options to choose from. Seasonal rates apply and long-term discount rates are available.
Close to the city, yet a world away. Located in park-like surroundings with great indoor-outdoor living and off-street parking.

Outstanding experience! Best welcome ever, utter hospitality genius I came to stay here with my partner just for one night. Had an amazing welcome by John the owner. His welcome was like no other and we felt instantly at home but also very special. We even won a bar of chocolate! Our room was much better than expected for a backpackers (had some bad experiences before), clean fresh linen, modern look, great en suite ad it was so warm! The sites facilities were perfect, I have no complaints there either. The resident cat and old dog are both charming and help add to the lifestyle/romantic feel to the Eco Lodge. After being offered various fruit from the surrounding trees we couldn't help but take a few oranges, which felt very special indeed. I could write forever about how much we liked our stay. We will return regularly on our Hawkes Bay visits. We very much liked the Eco feel to the place and felt that if we were to stay longer next time we most certainly would be able to contribute. Great job John.

John was incredibly nice and welcoming! He suggested a couple of restaurants for us to eat at and we decided to have Thai food at Thai Orchid. It ended up being one of the best places we have ever eaten. Thanks John! This hostel is great place to stay in Hastings. Don't forget to pick feijoas, persimmons, and walnuts!

The friendlist staff of any hostel I've stayed at. You can tell they really value the place and want you to feel welcome. It isn't just about busniess. The location was great, very peaceful and not too far away from the city centre. Overall I had a fantastic stay,.
